Abstract
A method is presented for determining the surface profile of a deterministic, perfectly conducting rough surface boundary from fixed-frequency scattering data. The proposed inversion scheme is based on the use of a perturbation expansion of the phase of the wave scattered from the surface and, as such, is analogous to the use of the Rytov approximation in inverse scattering from penetrable scatterers. A simple algorithmic procedure is derived for determining the surface profile from the scattering amplitude of the surface, and a number of examples illustrating the procedure are presented.
