Abstract
We have observed the enhanced backscattering of light from a characterized random rough dielectric film deposited onto a glass substrate when the light-illuminates the rough surface from the dielectric side, entering from the glass substrate. The vacuum/dielectric interface of the film is a two-dimensional random rough surface, while the dielectric/glass interface is approximately flat. Our numerical simulations for a one-dimensional, random rough surface not only predict similar phenomena but also reveal some information about the main mechanism responsible for the enhanced backscattering peak.
