Abstract

An elegant finite-difference technique with absorbing boundary conditions has been developed to solve coupled nonlinear differential equations that characterize wave propagation in a nonlinear periodic medium. It yields accurate results that are consistent with earlier published results. The method is less complex and more flexible than the method of characteristics. No problem of stability or convergence is noticed in cases of general interest in the analysis of a nonlinear periodic medium.
