Abstract

We deal with the synthesis of diffractive optical elements for the generation of confined beams in free-space propagation. Our main objective concerns the optimization of the trade-off among beam confinement, diffraction efficiency, and technical feasibility. Solutions are derived from a purely theoretical analysis, and they are then tested experimentally.
