Abstract

At low light levels the photonic nature of light introduces dominant bias terms into the intensity correlations that need compensation. We present an unbiased estimator, and the noise on it, for a general Nth-order correlation of an arbitrary (although time-independent) image intensity distribution. The diagrammatic rules presented here for various noise terms serve as a useful bookkeeping device.
