Abstract

Using an ansatz for the eigenfunction, I obtain an exact analytic solution of the radially inhomogeneous circular waveguide problem for a polynomial profile of the form f(r) = ar2br4 + cr6, where the expansion coefficients a, b, and c, are positive and satisfy the constraint b2 = 8c3/2(m + 2) + 4ac, with m = 0, 1, 2, ….
