Equivalence of two theories of beam tilt

Abstract

I demonstrate the equivalence of two different problems of beam tilt or angle of arrival. One approach employs the optical analog of the Ehrenfest theorem from quantum physics to derive the angle of arrival for a beam wave. The other approach models the tilt based on the average angle of arrival over a telescope aperture.
