Abstract
Signals propagating in multimode waveguides are dispersed and distorted during propagation. We show how holographic techniques can be used to unravel these signals and reconstruct an image of the wave front in the vicinity of a scatterer or other signal source. One application being developed is low-frequency, long-range detection and localization in the deep ocean. This reconstruction methodology can also be applied to radio-wave propagation in atmospheric channels and to optical propagation in multimode glass fibers.
