JOSA A/Applied Optics Feature Announcement
Adaptive Optics
Submission Deadline: 15 January 2010
This feature issue on Adaptive Optics, to appear jointly in the Journal of the Optical Society of America A (JOSA A) and Applied Optics, will survey recent advances in adaptive optics theory, concepts, systems, technologies, and varied applications. In the 11 years since the last Optical Society special issue on this topic, published in the 20 July 1998 issue of Applied Optics, advances in components, theory, and system design have fostered tremendous growth in the uses of adaptive optics. These include, but are not limited to, ground-based astronomy, beam propagation and optical communication, and vision science. The challenges provided by these applications have, in turn, driven much of the development in adaptive optics to date.
This feature issue is intended to provide cutting edge research papers addressing the following topics:
Adaptive optics concepts and applications
- Advanced system concepts for atmospheric turbulence compensation, including multiconjugate, multiobject, ground-layer, and extreme adaptive optics
- Innovative applications, including vision science and optical communication and beam control
Adaptive optics control algorithms
- Optimal and adaptive control
- Computationally efficient algorithms
- Amplitude and phase control
- Point-spread function (PSF) reconstruction and performance estimation
- Simulation and modeling methods
Component technologies
- Conventional, MEMS and large deformable mirrors
- Wavefront sensing optics and detectors
- Signal processing electronics
- Lasers and fiber optics for laser guidestar systems
- Adaptive optics laboratory and field tests
Manuscripts with an emphasis on theory, advanced concepts, and/or fundamental experimental results should be submitted to JOSA A; manuscripts that focus on system design, component technologies, and/or practical applications and methods should be submitted to Applied Optics. Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual standards for submission to these journals and will be peer reviewed; see the Information for Contributors in any printed issue or the OSA Style Guide: http://www.opticsinfobase.org/ao/submit/style/jrnls_style.cfm. Manuscripts must also be uploaded through OSA's electronic submission system: JOSA A submissions should be uploaded art http://www.opticsinfobase.org/josaa/journal/josaa/author.cfm; Applied Optics papers at http://www.opticsinfobase.org/ao/journal/ao/author.cfm. All submissions to Applied Optics must be sent to the Lasers, Photonics, and Environmental Optics Division. Please specify that the manuscript is for the Adaptive Optics feature (choose from the feature issue drop-down menu).
