2010 Journal Citation Reports® Data for OSA Journals

OSA is proud that its collection of 15 flagship, partnered and co-published peer-reviewed journals continues to provide the most citations (40%) and articles (32%) in the field of optics and photonics, according to 2010 Journal Citation Reports (JCR) ® (Thomson Reuters, 2011). Of the 78 journals listed in the Optics category, seven OSA Journals are included in the top 25 titles.

The JCR now includes an Eigenfactor™ Score for each journal. OSA's Optics Express, Optics Letters and Applied Optics are among the top five journals in the Optics category based on Eigenfactor. The Eigenfactor calculates the number of times articles from the journal published in the past five years has been cited in the JCR year while considering which journals have contributed to these citations. Citations from one article in a journal to another article from the same journal are removed; therefore Eigenfactor scores are not influenced by self-citation.

ISI updated the 2010 impact factors by a slight margin (e.g., less than .1) in October/November of 2011 so we provide those updated numbers in the table below and on each journal's website. However, since our 2012 Journals Catalogs were printed earlier in 2011, it does not reflect the updated impact factors.

*The Journal of Optical Networking (JON), which is co-published with IEEE, changed its title to the Journal of Optical Communications and Networking (JOCN) in 2009, therefore the JCR data is split between JON and JOCN in the 2009-2011 JCR reports.

^The Journal of Optical Communications and Networking (JOCN) is also included in the Computer Science, Hardware & Architecture category. Its 2010 rankings in that category are #22 of 48 journals by Impact Factor and #42 by Total Cites. In addition, it is listed in the Computer Science, Information Systems category, where it is ranked #64 out of 128 journals by Impact Factor and #102 by Total Cites.

+The Journal of Lightwave Technology (JLT) is also included in the Engineering, Electrical & Electronic category. Its 2010 rankings in that category are #32 of 247 journals by Impact Factor and #12 by Total Cites.

NOTE: Applied Spectroscopy (AS), published by the Society of Applied Spectroscopy and available on OSA's Optics InfoBase, has a 2010 Impact Factor of 1.729. It is included in the Spectroscopy category with rankings of #21 out of 42 journals by Impact Factor, #8 by Total Cites, and #14 by Eigenfactor Factor.
