Abstract
We have achieved on-target intensities above 2 × 1019 W/cm2 by focusing 1.06-μm 30-TW pulses with durations in the 300-fs range. The intensity contrast has been measured to be 10−7–10−8 in the few-hundred-picosecond background before the main pulse, and this value is supported by the analysis of the time-resolved x-ray spectra emitted by irradiated solid targets.
