Superposition of the atomic Bloch state: preparation method

Abstract

We provide an approach for preparing a superposition of atomic Bloch states. This approach is based on the coupling between a single-mode radiative field and a many-atom system. Under the condition of N (the number of atoms) going to infinity, the analytical solution of the time evolution of the coupling system is obtained. Then we discuss the problem with a special type of initial state, the optical Schrödinger cat state, and find a way to generate the so-called atomic Schrödinger cat state.
