Nonlinear-optical filters based on the cascading second-order effect

Abstract

The formalism of a transmission line is applied to the study of the optical response of a nonlinear multilayer filter filled with a quadratic material. A second-harmonic generation process is taken into account under mismatching conditions, i.e., an undepleted-pump beam. The pump beam’s evolution as a function of its intensity through the multilayer is studied. Examples of multilayer structures are discussed.
