Abstract

We report the generation of up to the 27th harmonic (lambda=29.5 nm) of a Ti:sapphire laser pulse from the prepulse-produced carbon plasma. The gradual decrease of the intensity for harmonics was observed, contrary to the plateau pattern for high harmonics appearing in the case of boron plasma at analogous conditions. Harmonic generation appeared to be efficient in the case of singly ionized plasma when higher-charged ion concentration was negligible. The conversion efficiency for the 19th harmonic was measured to be 10−6.
