Abstract

An external injection-seeding scheme with selected wavelength feedback to the master Fabry–Perot laser diode is developed to improve the side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR) and extend the wavelength tuning range of the injection-seeded optical short pulses. A SMSR of higher than 31 dB over a wavelength tuning range of 20.4 nm has been obtained. For a SMSR of higher than 40 dB, the wavelength tuning range achieved is 13.8 nm. The system is simple and can operate at arbitrary repetition frequency.
