Abstract

The mode-locking performance of a diode-pumped Nd:Lu0.15Y0.85VO4 laser is first demonstrated with a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM). Stable mode-locking with the pulse duration of 5.1ps and the repetition rate of 106MHz is achieved. An output power of 7W is obtained at a pump power of 20W, corresponding to an optical conversion efficiency of 35%. The maximum mode-locked pulse energy is estimated to be 66nJ with the peak power of 12.9kW.
