Coherence properties of Stokes beams for incoherent broadband pumps

Abstract

We calculate the Stokes correlation function for resonant Raman amplification by a broadband incoherent pump. For beams crossing at a nonzero angle the transversal Stokes coherence length is proportional to the longitudinal pump coherence length, and for small crossing angles it is inversely proportional to the angle. Transversal pump incoherence leads to a threshold for amplification.
