Abstract
Bragg reflection from a cholesteric liquid-crystal slab was analyzed in the framework of nonlinear optics. The novel features of Bragg reflection can be explained by its nonlinear parametric characteristics. We then extend our theory to a dichroic cholesteric liquid crystal, the transmission of which shows the optical analog of the Borrmann effect.
