Abstract
The inner-shell ionization of a molecular species using the soft x rays from a laser-produced plasma is described. The emission behavior of the Cs2+F− ionic excimer in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) has been studied. A model is presented to describe the fundamental kinetics of the excitation process and is found to be in agreement with the experiments. The absorption of CsF in the VUV has been studied experimentally and theoretically to evaluate Cs2+F− as a possible VUV laser species.
