Abstract

A method for the analysis of radiation properties of three-dimensional channel-waveguide gratings is presented. The method is based on an improved perturbation procedure, with which high accuracy can be expected even for waveguides with deep corrugations. The finite-element and the boundary-element methods are used in combination to calculate field distributions of higher-order radiative space harmonics. Numerical results are given for embedded channel waveguides whose core–air interfaces are normally or obliquely corrugated and for dielectric strip waveguides whose vertical sidewalls are corrugated.
