Abstract
We introduce a novel nonlinear waveguide modulator. In contrast with conventional guides, an antiresonant reflecting optical waveguide that supports leaky waves is the basic element. After a comprehensive analysis of the linear properties of this antiguide we study the wave propagation when some components of the system are endowed with a material that exhibits an intensity-dependent refractive index. We show that all-optical modulation of the throughput is feasible with less power than for conventional cutoff switches.
