JOSA B Feature Announcement

Electromagnetic Metasurfaces

Submission Open: 15 July 2015

Submission Deadline: 1 September 2015

In recent years there has been a growing interest in engineered surfaces (metasurfaces) that can be used to manipulate incident electromagnetic waves, all the way from microwave to optical frequencies. A particular driver for this interest is the control of light with nanoscale metasurfaces, which is now enabled due to modern nanofabrication techniques. Emerging metasurfaces make it possible to tailor both the electric and magnetic response of light thus offering new levels of design flexibility and performance. Such metasurfaces can arbitrarily control and shape the amplitude, phase and polarization state of electromagnetic waves. Ultimately, reconfigurable metasurfaces can provide a pathway to the full control of electromagnetic waves at will.

This feature issue, to appear in JOSA B, will feature both invited and contributed papers presenting experimental and theoretical work exploring topics in electromagnetic metasurfaces. These papers will present results or technical discussion at a level of detail consistent with JOSA-B.

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual standards for submission to JOSA B. Manuscripts must also be uploaded through OSA's electronic submission system. All manuscripts must be submitted to the JOSA B. Please specify that the manuscript is for the Electromagnetic Metasurfaces feature (choose from the feature issue drop-down menu).
