Abstract

This paper discusses the linear and nonlinear optical properties of a composite material based on silver halides with silver nanoparticles in the 8–12- um spectral region. The linear optical spectra of the composite are presented, along with experimental results on the limitation of the radiation of a pulsed CO2 laser (l510.6 mm). It is established that the limitation threshold can reach 10 mJ/cm2 when the radiation pulsewidth is 1 ms. It is shown in the proposed theoretical model that, in a composite containing nanoparticles with a dielectric core surrounded by a shell composed of a silver island film, a plasma resonance arises in the mid-IR region that strengthens the nonlinear-optical properties of the dielectric.
