Opticheskiĭ Zhurnal 77, 96 (February 2010) This book, by well-known specialists in the physics of ultrasmall systems, is devoted to the optical properties of solid-state heterostructures with characteristic scales of spatial inhomogeneities from hundreds of nanometers to a few nanometers. It presents the results of theoretical and experimental investigations of such important objects as photonic crystals, quantum wells and superlattices, quantum dots, and metallic nanoparticles.
