Abstract

This paper discusses the features of the calculation, design, fabrication, and monitoring of lens IR objectives intended for thermal-vision cameras with cooled photodetector arrays operating in the 3–5 and 8–12- um regions of the spectrum. The advantages of the choice of a triplet–achromat layout for the 3–5- mm region and of a two-lens objective with aspheric surfaces for the 8–12- um region are considered, taking into account the minimization of the background lighting of the photodetector. Recommendations are given for the choice and preliminary monitoring of the optical materials—single-crystal germanium and silicon—used to fabricate the lenses of the objectives, including diamond microturning.
