Abstract
This paper describes the design and characteristics of a new generation of obstruction lights
based on red LEDs that radiate into the upper hemisphere. The LEDs are mounted on three
truncated pyramids that play the role of radiators, with an overall height of 60 mm. With a
norm of 10 cd at 26° and 16° relative to the horizontal plane and 4 cd in the upper hemisphere,
the luminous intensity of the source (the light) has a reserve of more than a factor of 2. The
paper discusses questions associated with the absence of icing on the bell jar of the working light
down to an ambient temperature of 230 °C.
