Abstract

Relationships are obtained that determine how the transverse magnification of an image and the magnification falloff, as well as the magnitude of the image defocusing, depend on the parameters of an n-component layout of a variable-magnification optical system when the displacements of its components are linearly related. In this case, the expression that determines the image defocusing can take the form of a Chebyshev fraction, whose properties make it possible to minimize the residual image defocusing. It is shown that the coefficients of the resulting relationships can be expressed in terms of the parameters of the n-component layout of the variable-magnification optical system. © 2004 Optical Society of America
