Abstract

This paper proposes a law for adjusting the drawing rate in order to obtain a quartz fiber lightguide with a broadened conical section (a "focon") at its end and discusses the applicability of this law. The fiber lightguide samples were protected during drawing by a UV-hardenable oligourethane acrylate coating. © 2004 Optical Society of America
