Abstract

The spectroscopic parameters of especially pure quartz glass fabricated by the sol-gel process is investigated. When the glass samples are irradiated with gamma radiation, absorption bands are formed at 4.85, 2.05, and 1.75 eV. The absorption intensity in the band at 4.85 eV is proportional to the absorbed dose of gamma radiation. A schematic diagonal is proposed for an optical-fiber sensor with a sensitive element fabricated from sol-gel quartz glass. © 2004 Optical Society of America
