Abstract

This paper proposes a design for an optical gas-humidity sensor whose operating principle is the absorption of VUV radiation in the 110-190-nm region, based on commercial microlamps with magnesium fluoride windows and solar-blind photodetectors with nickel cathodes. The effect of nonmonochromatic radiation of the light sources on the characteristics of the proposed sensor is considered. Estimates are made of how the interfering components affect the measurement error of the air humidity. The results of experiments of humidity sensors with various radiation sources are presented. © 2005 Optical Society of America
