Abstract

The methods of Hamiltonian optics are used to prove that the paths of oblique rays through optical systems with cylindrical lenses can be calculated in the meridional plane if the actual refractive indices of the cylindrical lenses are replaced by "fictitious refractive indices." © 2005 Optical Society of America
