This paper proposes a new selective fluorimetric method of quantitative chemical analysis of aqueous media for determining the fluoride ion in them in the concentration range 1-20 mg/L. The method is based on the phenomenon of nonradiative energy transport of electronic excitation between lanthanide ions associated in labile nanostructures consisting of binuclear fluoride intrasphere complexes of lanthanide ions with an external sphere of chloride ions incorporated in them. The influence of a wide range of electrolytes on energy transport in Tb(III)-F−-Nd(III) nanostructures is investigated in order to increase the sensitivity and reliability of determining fluoride in water. The method requires no complicated sample preparation and is carried out on standard fluorimeters. © 2005 Optical Society of America
