Abstract
The elastic and photoelastic properties of ZnSe and Ca3(VO4)2 crystals have been investigated by acousto-optic Bragg diffraction. Stimulated Raman scattering (SRS) in Ca3(VO4)2 crystals has also been also studied, using trains of short picosecond pulses. The acousto-optic quality index M2 of ZnSe is a factor of 4-20 greater than in LiNbO3, and this makes ZnSe an efficient medium of acousto-optic interaction. As a consequence of the existence of a broad SRS active mode and the steady-state character of SRS, Ca3(VO4)2 crystals are attractive for the efficient conversion of picosecond pulses.
