Abstract
This paper presents a new method of forming multidomain liquid-crystal (LC)
structures, using surface-active substances. This method is used to form the following
multidomain structures: homeotrope-hybrid, homeotrope-twist, hybrid-planar,
hybrid-hybrid, homeotrope-planar, twist-hybrid, and twist-homeotrope. The results of
theoretical and experimental studies of the electrooptic properties of these structures
are presented. Possible applications of multidomain LC structures in optical-information
display devices are discussed.
