Abstract

Relationships have been obtained that determine the variations of the aberrational structure of pencils of light rays formed by a decentered element of an optical system. The influence of each term of the resulting relationships on a geometrical point image has been analyzed separately to give a clear picture of the character of the variation of the primary aberrations (third-order aberrations) introduced into the image of an object by a decentered element of an optical system.
