Electrically controlled dispersion filters for the visible and mid-infrared regions

Abstract

This paper discusses electrically controllable dispersion filters for optical radiation, based on a small-particle–liquid-crystal system. The transmission spectra of tunable dispersion filters are analyzed, using as an example the liquid-crystal-ZhKM-1289–SiO<sub>2</sub>-microparticle system. It is shown that such a system can be used to filter radiation in the near-UV, visible, and IR regions. The position of the transmission band maxima depends on the control voltage and can be smoothly tuned in the wavelength intervals 0.33–0.55µm and 1.8–3.2µm.
