Abstract
This paper discusses how the design features of anisotropic single-mode quartz fiber lightguides with an elliptical boron-germanosilicate stress cladding affect the birefringence. It is found that, as the ellipticity of the stress cladding and the drawing temperature increase, the contribution of the hydrostatic mechanism to the anisotropy of the stressed state of the core increases.
