Cold test for thermal-vision studies of symmetrical reactions in physiology and medical diagnosis

This paper discusses the temporal dynamics of the temperature of the epidermis of stimulated and unstimulated hands in healthy subjects after a unilateral cold test (15°C, 1 min). The Thermo Tracer TH-9100 thermal viewer was used to record the symmetrical thermal reactions on the contralateral extremity, which are more pronounced on the ungual phalanges of the fingers. The temperature variations after cooling depended on the initial state of the skin both on the side of stimulation and in the symmetrical zones. The test minimized the variability of the post-stimulus temperatures. It is shown that the reactions are different in standing and sitting subjects. The dynamics of the pattern of the IR emission from the symmetric zones of the epidermis in the distal sections of the extremities in response to the cold tests is proposed as a model for studies in the clinic. It is crucial to choose informative contexts to increase the efficiency of the thermal-vision diagnosis of traumas and diseases that alter the functional state of the peripheral blood circulation.
