About Optics Express

Optics Express is the all-electronic journal for optics published by the Optical Society of America and edited by Martijn de Sterke of the University of Sydney. The journal is published every other Monday. ISSN: 1094-4087

Journal Scope and Features

Optics Express publishes original, peer-reviewed articles that report new developments of interest to the optics community in all fields of optical science and technology.

Drawing on unique features of the electronic medium, Optics Express offers authors:

  • rapid publication
  • the chance to include color images at no additional cost
  • the medium for presenting data and results in ways not possible in print via audio and video multimedia files

Focus Issues

Optics Express has published a number of special focus issues. See the Directory of Published and Ongoing Focus Issues.

Upcoming

Optics Express now displays articles in the "Upcoming" page. After an article has been fully accepted, formatted for publication, and the publication fee has been paid, we will immediately publish it on our Upcoming page.

Papers displayed here will form the upcoming issue. Every other Monday, all articles mounted on the Upcoming page will become fixed as the current issue and archived, and new articles will then be added to a new Upcoming issue.

This feature will not only ensure the fastest possible turn-around time for the authors; it will also provide readers with the fastest way to keep up on the latest research.

Papers not yet assigned a Table of Contents category will be assigned one within several days of being posted.

Archiving and Citation

Optics Express articles are archived electronically and available online from the journal Web site and in the Optics InfoBase repository. In addition, each volume is available in a CD-ROM format. Optics Express articles are uniquely and permanently identified by page, issue, and volume number.

OSA is committed to the permanent retention and preservation in electronic form of scholarly information published in OSA's journals, proceedings, and other publications. In 2000, OSA's mission statement was revised to include archiving as a responsibility and an Archiving Policy (PDF 54KB) was approved by the Board of Directors.

Subscriptions / Access

Optics Express is available free to readers via the Web. There is no subscription fee for access; the journal is funded by modest author publication fees. Sign-up for the free e-mail alerting service and receive the table of contents bi-weekly.
