Optics Express Focus Issue

Controlled Light Propagation through Complex Media

Submission Opens: 1 December 2014

Submission Deadline: 1 February 2015

This Focus issue, which comprises solicited research and review papers only, is inspired by a recent OSA incubator meeting held in Washington DC on March 5-7, 2014, also titled "Controlled Light Propagation through Complex Media".

Imaging through scattering media has been a long-standing challenge in optics, with repercussions in a wide range of fields. Strategies to address this challenge have included nonlinear imaging with long wavelengths and adaptive optics. The former relies on imaging with ballistic light; the latter relies on imaging with quasi-ballistic or weakly scattered (aberrated) light. There has been a recent push in the study of light propagation and imaging through strongly scattering media where ballistic light is completely absent. This recent push will be the central theme of the proposed focus issue.

Manuscripts must be prepared according to the usual standards for submission to Optics Express and must be uploaded through OSA's electronic submission system, (/oe/author/author.cfm), specifying from the drop-down menu that the manuscript is for the Focus Issue on Controlled Light Propagation through Complex Media. All accepted papers will be held such that the entire focus issue can be published on or near the target publication date. The standard Optics Express publication charges will apply to all published articles, though for solicited review articles OSA has agreed to cap article processing costs at the standard paper length level (15 pages).
