2011 Journal Citation Reports® Data for OSA Journals
OSA is proud that its collection of 15 flagship, partnered and co-published peer-reviewed journals continues to provide the most citations (41%) and articles (35%) in the field of optics and photonics, according to 2011 Journal Citation Reports (JCR) ® (Thomson Reuters, 2012). Of the 77 journals listed in the Optics category, eight OSA Journals are included in the top 25 titles.
The JCR includes an Eigenfactor™ Score for each journal. OSA's Optics Express, Optics Letters and Applied Optics are among the top five journals in the Optics category based on Eigenfactor. The Eigenfactor calculates the number of times articles from the journal published in the past five years has been cited in the JCR year while considering which journals have contributed to these citations. Citations from one article in a journal to another article from the same journal are removed; therefore Eigenfactor scores are not influenced by self-citation.

+The Journal of Lightwave Technology (JLT) is also included in the Engineering, Electrical & Electronic category. Its 2011 rankings in that category are #25 of 244 journals by Impact Factor and #12 by Total Cites. In addition, it is listed in the Telecommunications category, where it is ranked #5 out of 78 journals by Impact Factor and #2 by Total Cites.
++Biomedical Optics Express is also included in the Biochemical Research Methods category. Its 2011 rankings in that category are #37 of 72 journals by Impact Factor and #58 by Total Cites. In addition, it is listed in the Radiology, Nuclear Medicine & Medical Imaging category, where it is ranked #40 out of 116 journals by Impact Factor and #86 by Total Cites.
^The Journal of Optical Communications and Networking (JOCN) is also included in the Computer Science, Hardware & Architecture category. Its 2011 rankings in that category are #7 of 50 journals by Impact Factor and #32 by Total Cites. In addition, it is listed in the Computer Science, Information Systems category, where it is ranked #24 out of 133 journals by Impact Factor and #67 by Total Cites. Finally, JOCN is also listed in the Telecommunications category, where it is ranked #17 out of 78 journals by Impact Factor and #45 by Total Cites.
*The Journal of Optical Networking (JON), which is co-published with IEEE, changed its title to the Journal of Optical Communications and Networking (JOCN) in 2009, therefore the JCR data is split between JON and JOCN in the 2009-2011 JCR reports.
NOTE: Applied Spectroscopy (AS), published by the Society of Applied Spectroscopy and available on OSA's Optics InfoBase, has a 2011 Impact Factor of 1.663. It is included in the Spectroscopy category with rankings of #21 out of 41 journals by Impact Factor, #9 by Total Cites, and #15 by Eigenfactor score. In addition, it is listed in the Instruments and Instrumentation category, where it is ranked #15 out of 58 journals by Impact Factor, #9 by Total Cites, and #17 by Eigenfactor score.
