Amplification of 1-nsec pulses in Nd:glass followed by compression to 1 psec

Abstract

We use the grating–grating expansion–compression approach to extend the possibilities of chirped-pulse amplification. A 50-psec pulse is stretched to 1 nsec before being regeneratively amplified in Nd:glass. Subsequent compression to 1 psec allows for high-peak-power pulse generation with small nanosecond-type amplifiers.
