Abstract

We propose, for the first time to our knowledge, an improved effective-index method (IEIM) that has the advantage of high speed and much better accuracy than the conventional effective-index method. The modal properties computed with the IEIM, such as effective index and dispersion, are closely matched to those of the multipole method as well as to experimental values.
