Abstract

A novel and simple method for sensitive determination of the existence of higher-order modes in a quasi-single-mode fiber has been demonstrated. The method is based on the detection of interference between higher-order modes and the fundamental LP01 mode within the fiber by using phase modulation generated by a piezoelectric transducer.
