Abstract

We have obtained over 1.8 W of power from a cw chromium-doped forsterite laser operated at 77 K when it is pumped by a 7.3-W Nd:YAG laser at 1.06 μm. The forsterite laser tunes smoothly from 1.2 to 1.32 μm. At room temperature the output power decreases to approximately 35% of the cryogenic power level.
