Abstract

Gain for flash-lamp-pumped Cr:LiSrAlF6 and Cr:Li(Sr1−x,Cax)AlF6 from 790 to 1000 nm is reported. For Cr:LiSrAlF6 thermal fracture occurred at heat loadings of 4.5 W/cm and ∼6 W/cm2 in the rod and slab geometry, respectively. Excited-state upconversion losses were evident in the slabs at high pump energy.
