Abstract
The possibility for improvement of the signal-to-noise ratio of a Doppler lidar has been deduced theoretically and shown experimentally. An optical amplifier has been built up and integrated into a Doppler lidar. The measured improvement of the signal-to-noise ratio has been compared with the calculated value. The maximum range of the lidar has been increased because of improved signal-to-noise ratio.
