Abstract

We have constructed a prototype single-mode-fiber-based Fizeau interferometric medical pressure sensor that uses coherence reading. A range-to-resolution ratio of ∼6.7 × 103:1 and an overall measurement accuracy of better than ±1% over a pressure range of 0 to 360 Torr have been achieved. This miniature sensor is expected to be a practical approach for most medical applications.
