Abstract

We present a simple model for charge transport in multiple-quantum-well hetero-n-i-p-i’s. We treat the quantum wells as traps within the barrier material and then apply Kukhtarev’s equations, developed to describe grating formation in bulk photorefractive crystals. By using the periodicity of the n-i-p-i structure, we derive an analytical expression for the total field in a multiple-quantum-well hetero-n-i-p-i as a function of light intensity in the near-flat-band regime. We show that it agrees with recent experimental results.
