Abstract

We examine the knottedness of a structure through optical or electromagnetic wave scattering as a first step in the investigation of scattering from and propagation through knotted media. Initial investigations demonstrate that the handedness of knots and the degree of knottedness can be deduced from the backscatter signature for the examples considered.
